TINSUKIA, March 18 - Altogether 47 nomination papers for the coming Assembly election to be held on April 4 have been filed for five LACs of the district till the last day of filing nominations today.
Those who filed papers for Tinsukia LAC are Rajendra Prasad Singh of Indian National Congress (INC), Sanjay Kishan of BJP, Chintu Baruah of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Lakhyajyoti Baruah (Independent), Ram Darshan Singh of Bharat Vikash Morcha (BVM), Ram Narayan Singh (Shiv Sena) and Ananta Jyoti Bhattacharyya (Jana Congress).
In Digboi LAC, Gautom Dhanwar (INC), Suren Phukon (BJP), Md Imran Siddiqui (BVM), Kanak Chetia (Ind), Chandan Bagh of Rastriya Secular Congress (RSC), Pranab Chetia (Ind), Nagen Dhekial Phukon (NCP), Jugal Majhi (Jana Congress), Biswanath Sharma Bordoloi (Ind), Arun Sahu (Ind) and Bhaba Kanta Chutia (Ind) have filed nominations.
In Margherita LAC, those who have filed papers are Pradyut Bordoloi (INC), Bhaskar Sharma (BJP), Nidan Purty (BVM), Umesh Bora (Ind), Biswanath Singha (Ind) and Purna Chetry (Ind).
In Doomdooma LAC, Durga Bhumij (INC), Dilip Moran (BJP), Rishikesh Baruah (Ind), Rupesh Goala (Ind), Md Ifab Hussain (Ind), Niren Moran, (Ind), Ranjit Sing Garh (Ind), Bhaba Kanta Chutia (Ind), Manoj Kr Sawasi (Jana Congress), Rajesh Karmakar (BVM), Sarfaraz Alam (RSC) and Niren Moran (Ind) have filed nominations.
In Sadiya, Birinchi Neog (INC), Bolin Chetia (BJP), Druna Charingia Phukon (CPI-M) along with Independent candidates Anup Pratim Borborua, Din Dayal Verma, Lakhin Ch Chetia, Bulbul Goala, Ramen Borgohain, Srikumar Dohotia, Tikendra Thapa, Lalit Deori and Biswanath Baruah have filed their nomination papers.
It may be mentioned that Rajendra Prasad Singh and Pradyut Bordoloi, both of INC, have won the Tinsukia LAC and Margherita LAC respectively in the last three consecutive elections. On the other hand, Dilip Moran of BJP has won the Doomdooma LAC in the last election whereas Durga Bhumij of INC won the same seat in 2006 election. Bolin Chetia, who has filed nomination for Sadiya LAC this time as the BJP candidate, was representing the constituency for the last two consecutive terms as Congress candidate.
The interesting point of this election for the Digboi constituency is that the constituency has been representing continuously since 1978 by Rameswer Dhanwar of INC, but this time instead of him, the party has given ticket to his son Gautom Dhanwar.
