SILCHAR, Dec 9 - In a major catch, the Excise department conducted an armed raid across different places of Silchar Sadar circle on Friday and seized 26.280 litres of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 4,215 litres of fermented wash, 40 sets of distilling apparatus together with 305 litres of illicit distilling and arrested 46 persons engaged in the foul play.
According to sources in the department, the raid conducted at places like Koomba, Endowgram, Rajapara (Salganga), Khaspur, Changaritilla (Borjalenga), Silcoorie was led by Sunil Sinha, Excise Superintendent and Emanuel Lalringum, Sadar Inspector along with police battalion. In the words of the Excise Superintendent, there were 50 persons involved in it while four persons managed to escape.
Moreover, as many as seven illegal sheds used for manufacturing illicit distilling liquor were demolished during the raid, the Superintendent said.
