NORTH LAKHIMPUR, July 22 - Forty four cases of Japanese encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) have been reported in Lakhimpur district. This was stated by Joint Director of Health, Lakhimpur in a press release today.
At present a total of 44 AES/JE cases have been reported till date in Lakhimpur district out of which 15 numbers of cases are laboratory positive for Japanese encephalitis. Three persons died due to Japanese encephalitis and five died due to AES in the district so far.
The Health Department, Lakhimpur has put its officials on high alert and initiated to take all necessary actions in order to tackle this deadly viral disease. All preventive measures has been taken such as focal fogging, mass blood slide collection, ITBN (Insecticide treated bed nets) and awareness camps in rural as well as urban areas. Long Lasted Insecticidal Nets (LLIN) was distributed at various places in the district.
The press release has appealed the general public to remain protected from mosquito bites by wearing long sleeve cloths during day time, avoiding water logging at their premises, keeping the cattle and pigs away from their houses and also using of mosquito nets at night. The general symptoms of Japanese encephalitis are high temperature (fever), headache, diarrhoea and muscle pain.
