400 students from 51 schools take part in child rally

MIRZA, March 14 - Over 400 students from 51 specially established schools under Kamrup district, including Residential Special Training Centres (RSTC), Non-Residential Special Training Schools and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas took part in a child rally organised at Kali Prasad Das High School at Rampur near here recently.

The programme was organised under the aegis of the Samagra Shiksha Scheme, Kamrup and the Block Elementary Education Office (BEEO), Rampur.

Debajit Das, Cluster Resource Centre Coordinator (CRCC) of Rampur block, said that the special training schools have been set by the government under the Axom Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission, in a bid to provide education to those children who have dropped out from schools or those who have never been enrolled.

The child rally started with hoisting of the flag by Mrinal Thakuria, president of the school management and development committee of Kali Prasad Das High School.

Various competitions like poem recitation, extempore speech, go-as-you-like, paani-paar, musical fair and drawing were conducted among the students.

An open session was held, where headmaster Banajit Kalita lit the lamp. Debajit Das explained the objectives of the rally, and several speakers including Kamrup district Inspector of Schools Prasanna Bora, District Elementary Education Officer Apurba Thakuria, Hekera HS School principal Dr Guneswar Chaharia, Dadara HS School principal Paresh Baishya and Rampur HS School principal Anju Bhatta delivered lectures on various issues related to education. On the occasion, seven women who have achieved success in different fields were also felicitated.
