400 KV line trips causing power shortage

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, June 22 Due to the sudden tripping of the 400 Kv link line between the Eastern Region and the Northeastern Region Grid around 4 pm today, there has been a disruption in power supply in the entire NE region this evening.

Informing this, Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) sources here said that the region is not receiving the 1,200 MW of power it usually receives from the Eastern Region Restoration of the entire network will require a couple of hours from this evening, said the sources.

However, sources said, the ASEB is trying to make up for a portion of the shortfall caused by the development, by starting its own generating units at Lakwa, Namrup and Karbi Langpi. It needs mention here that the power demand of the State in the peak-load-hours between 6pm and 11 pm is over 1,000 MW and the power demand of Guwahati city during the period is around 100 MW.
