SILCHAR, May 26 - The anti-drug awareness campaign initiated by the Cachar police has yielded positive results with as many as 19 drug peddlers nabbed during the raids conducted since April 15 this year.
Also, around four kilogram of ganja was recovered and one person arrested from Dholai during a recently-conducted raid. In the words of Additional Superintendent of Police Cachar Abhijit Gaurav IPS �around 40% of the youngsters of the district are prone to drug addiction.�
He informed that police conducted 30 awareness meetings across the district to make people, particularly the youths aware about the ill affects of drug addiction.
It may be recalled here that Superintendent of Police Cachar Rajveer Singh had earlier mentioned about international groups of drug peddlers using the Bangladesh-Tripura-Cachar-Manipur route and the Myanmar-Manipur-Cachar-Guwahati route as corridors for the transportation of addictive substances in the north-eastern part of the country.
�Police is keeping strict vigil in every corner of the district,� Singh said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Cachar S Vishwanathan has lauded the efforts of the police in acting tough against drug peddlers. �The initiative has been able to highlight the harmful aspects of drug consumption and it will continue. We want our youths to be protected and their families to to be happy,� Vishwanathan maintained.
