GUWAHATI, March 22 - Altogether 40 candidates today filed their nomination papers for the four Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LAC) located in the city for the forthcoming polls.
Today was the last day for filing of nomination papers in the constituencies located in the Kamrup Metro Election district and other constituencies going to poll on April 11.
According to an official statement, eight candidates filed their nominations for the No 51 Jalukbari LAC, 12 candidates for No 52 Dispur LAC, nine candidates for No 52 Guwahati East LAC and 11 for No 54 Guwahati West LAC. With this, the total number of candidates in fray in the four constituencies located in Kamrup Metro Election District stands at 59. Nineteen candidates had filed their nominations till yesterday.
Among the prominent candidates who filed their nominations today were Niren Deka of Congress from Jalukbari, Bobbeeta Sharma of Congress from Guwahati East, Dr Juri Sharma Bordoloi of Congress from Guwahati West and sitting MLA Hemanta Talukdar from Guwahati West. Talukdar, who was denied a ticket by the Congress, has filed his nomination as an Independent.
Scrutiny will take place on March 24 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is March 26.
