40 Army personnel donate plasma at TMCH

TEZPUR, Aug 19 - State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today took part in a plasma donation camp organized by Tezpur Mission Chariali-based 4 Corps at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital in collaboration with the National Health Mission, Assam. Around 40 Army personnel of Gajraj Corps, who had recently recovered from COVID-19, took part in the plasma donation camp.

The one-of-its-kind plasma donation camp is expected to go a long way in the treatment of critically-ill COVID-19 patients. GOC, Gajraj Corps, Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal; Tezpur MP Pallab Lochan Das; MLA, Barchala LAC, Ganesh Limbu; Principal Secretary, H&FW, Samir Sinha; DDC F Alam; SP Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta; Principal and Chief Superintendent, TMCH, Dr Karuna Hazarika; OSD, NHM, Pomi Baruah and other senior officials of the military and civil administration along with Health department officials were present in the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sarma lauded the Indian Army for standing with the people of Assam in this hour of crisis. He spoke very highly of the Indian Army for responding to this call of humanity and thanked the Gajraj Corps for showing unstinted support to the Government�s fight against Covid-19.

GOC, Gajraj Corps, Lt Gen Shantanu Dayal said the Indian Army was proud to be part of such a noble initiative and lauded the visionary efforts of the Health Minister and said the Indian Army would always stand with the people of Assam.

Two donors who had previously donated plasma at TMCH, CEO, Sonitpur Zila Parishad Diganta Baishya and Ekramul Hussain along with a patient who had received plasma therapy at TMCH, Purujit Nath shared their experiences in the meeting.

The event was conducted by Dr Tanvir Alam while Principal and Chief Superintendent of the Medical College and Hospital, Dr Karuna Hazarika welcomed the gathering. OSD, NHM, Pomi Baruah subsequently delivering her vote of thanks, thanked all the Army personnel who have come forward to voluntarily donate their plasma.

Dr Sarma later visited the GOC�s 4 Corps headquarters and offered his tributes to the martyrs at the memorial.
