KALAIGAON, Sept 19 - The Udalguri district committee of AASU recently expelled four top office-bearers of the frontline students organisation.

Those expelled were from AASUs Kalaigaon anchalik committee, including its president and secretary, for unconstitutional activities.

In a press release issued by Pranjal Patowari, president and Saiful Haque, secretary of AASUs Udalguri district committee, it was declared that adviser Manoj Kumar Deka, president Gauri Kanta Nath, secretary Ranjan Sarma and assistant secretary Nilotpal Hazarika of the AASUs Kalaigaon anchalik committee were expelled from the primary membership of the premier students body and the executive committee has also been dissolved with immediate effect.

The press release further stated that tough action had to be taken against the officials for their anti-AASU activities, thereby damaging the image of the students organisation. According to information available from reliable sources, it is known that AASU leaders demanded strict action against the BDO of Kalaigaon Block and president of Kalaigaon VCDC for substandard construction work of CC topping of a road at Kalaigaon town in which an amount of nearly Rs 50 lakh had allegedly been misappropriated by a nexus of corrupt officials and contractors.

The ABVPs Kalaigaon unit too had demanded the Chief Minister to initiate a probe into the matter. However, according to local news sources, huge amounts of cash changed hands between the officials concerned and members of some organisations in an effort to hush up the unsavoury episode, hence the aforementioned stringent action.
