4 scribes to contest Manipur ADC polls

IMPHAL, May 9 � Four scribes including two editors, besides two former student leaders are all set to contest the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections in Manipur scheduled to be held on June 1.

The three editors are Ramkung Pamei of Tamenglong- based �The Cham�, a Rongmei dialect daily newspaper, Kh Benlian Vaiphei of Churachandpur-based �Nisin Thuhiltu�, a Vaiphei dialect daily and SN John, Joint Editor of Manipur Express, a Churachandpur daily in Paite dialect. The other journalist was Ukhrul-based AS Pamreiso Shimray, a former correspondent of Hueiyen Lanpao English daily.

Ramkung will be contesting on Naga People�s Front ticket from Chaengdai constituency in Tamenglong sub-division while Kh Benlian Vaiphei and SN John are contesting as independent candidates from seats in Churachandpur district. Pamreiso is contesting on Congress ticket from Kamjong constituency in Ukhrul district.

The ADC elections are scheduled to be held across six ADCs in five hill districts to elect 144 district council members.

So far, 555 candidates are in the fray after scrutiny held at Imphal West DC�s office in Imphal on Thursday.

Two student leaders � Ngachonmi Chamroy, former leader of All Naga Students Association Manipur and Zeliangrong student leader Liangkebou Pamei are contesting from Huining constituency in Ukhrul and Kuilong constituency in Tamenglong district. Chamroy is fighting on Congress ticket.
