JORHAT, May 29 � Locals of the Dulaigaon locality near Jorhat town today foiled the suicidal attempt of a youth and his sister in their village who allegedly tried to commit suicide after setting fire in their own house where their parents had been confined by them.
Eyewitnesses said that the youth, Pinku Dutta, and his sister Sumi Dutta tried to kill themselves by cutting their necks with blades after setting fire to their house.
Their father Deven Dutta and his wife Niku Dutta were found to be confined in the burning house.
All of them were rushed to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) for treatment. Doctors said that the condition of the girl and the parents were critical.
Police said that the actual cause of the crime is yet to be ascertained though some locals suspected that the youth and his sister took revenge on their parents who prevented them from �indulging in some unfavourable behaviours�.
