4 NSCN(U) cadres arrested in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, June 8 � Giving a severe blow to insurgent groups indulging in unlawful activities and creating terror in certain areas of the State, security forces have achieved a major breakthrough by arresting four hardcore cadres of National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Unification (NSCN-U) from Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The cadres have been identified as Ahon Honwang Josak alias Sgt Major Ahon, S Vito Awomi, Lonwang H Lowang and Lokwang Khete.

The security forces also recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and other incriminating materials from the arrested cadres. A case has been registered at the Khonsa police station.

Giving details of the operation, AIGP (Establishment) Tusar Taba informed that acting on a tip-off, a joint team of security forces under the leadership of Tirap SP Dr Ajit Kumar Singla and CO, 1st Assam Rifles Prashant Nair launched a coordinated operation on Friday in the jungle near Pansumthong village in Tirap district. The security forces then cordoned off the suspected hideouts and carried out the operation in the wee hours and succeeded in nabbing the four hardcore NSCN(U) cadres.

The AIGP also informed that during the operation, on being verbally challenged the NSCN(U) cadres fired upon the security forces. In the retaliatory fire by security forces, one NSCN(U) cadre, Ahon Honwang Josak sustained bullet injury. He was later admitted to Assam Medical College & Hospital, Dibrugarh for treatment.

The DGP, who was on a tour to Tirap and Changlang districts from June 4 to 7, personally monitored the entire operation.
