SILCHAR, Aug 30 � After receiving complaints against instances of ragging inside the campus, the director of the National Institute of Technology Silchar, Prof NV Deshpande has said that four students from the 5th semester have been suspended and asked to vacate the campus as they were the chief accused. He also added that 11 other students have been penalised Rs 5000 each. They will not be allowed to avail the training and placement facility until further orders, Deshpande added.
�The atmosphere of this institute of higher learning will not be allowed to become vitiated because of some troublemakers. The accused will be dealt with an iron hand,� Prof Deshpande said.
The accused had allegedly breached the discipline of the institution, ragging as many as 40 students from the 3rd semester recently. He went on to say that NIT Silchar is producing quality engineers and no instance of indiscipline will be entertained which affects the academic atmosphere here. �There was no action taken for such indiscipline earlier, but from now on any such acts will be dealt with sternly,� Prof Deshpande told this correspondent.
He also said that the movement of the students is being closely monitored to check unlawful activities. It is to be mentioned that, the students of NIT Silchar had sent a report of the incident to the MHRD.
