4 new containment zones declared in city

GUWAHATI, May 14 - With the detection of 15 new corona positive cases within 24-hours on Wednesday, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration today declared four new containment zones in and around Fancy Bazar, the largest business hub in the North East. The newly declared containment zones are Kumarpara, Fatasil GS Colony, Panbazar Railway Colony and Santipur.

The administration vide a notification, also expanded the covering area of the containment zone encircling Rajkamal Hotel at Fancy Bazar. The new boundary of the containment zone is MG Road on the northern side, Jail Road or Jai Narayan Road on the southern side, SRCB Road on the eastern side and Chamber of Commerce Road on the western side.

The boundary of the Kumarpara containment zone is Rupnagar bye-lane on the north, residence of one Dimbeswar Das and others on the south, residence of one Victor Baishya and others on the eastern side and residence of one Purabi Sarma and others on the western side.

The boundary of the Fatasil GS Colony containment zone is Bibha Mishra RCM complex on the northern side, Gurucharan Sharmah Road on the southern side, Sani Mandir Tiniali on the east and Fatasil Road on the west.

The boundary of the Panbazar Railway Colony containment zone is Colony Road on the north, Railway Colony Road on the south, GRP Colony on the eastern side and Railway Higher Secondary School on the western side.

In case of the Santipur containment zone, the northern boundary is Pubali Path, vacant plot of one Karuna Pathak Sharma is the southern boundary, residence of one Pranab Sharma forms the eastern boundary and residence of one Arun Sharma is the western boundary.

The order of containment zone for these areas will remain effective until further orders from the district administration.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Suprotiv Lal Barua said police personnel in adequate numbers have been deployed in all the containment zones to strictly restrict any unauthorised entry or exit, except emergency services. He said police personnel will be on round-the-clock duty at these places.

Notably, locals of these areas support the containment zone declaration order. �The situation is really very challenging for us. Hope such restrictions will save us,� a resident of Fancy Bazar area said.

Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) district Biswajit Pegu said health workers will collect around 300 samples from these containment zones for COVID-19 tests, adding that contact tracing of the infected persons is under way. The district administration is also taking measures to supply rations at the doorstep of every household inside the containment zones.

This morning personnel of the Fire and Emergency Services carried out sanitization in these areas.
