4 more COVID-19 patients die in State

GUWAHATI, July 12 - Four more COVID-19 positive patients died in the State today. Nilakshi Singh (40) of Guwahati, Arjun Kumar Ajitsaria (63) of Nagaon and Subhawati Devi Maurya (55) of Guwahati admitted to the GMCH COVID ICU succumbed between 11:30 pm last night and 2 am on Sunday. The death audit board will assess the underlying causes of their deaths.

Meanwhile, another patient Ashish Sahewal (36), who was admitted to the JMCH in Jorhat, also died today.

During the day, several health workers and police and paramilitary personnel tested positive for the virus across the State. As many as 16 personnel of the Nellie police outpost in Morigaon district have tested positive.

A new lockdown order will come into effect from Sunday night in the Kamrup (Metro) district area that includes Guwahati city. Movement of all private vehicles in the district will be prohibited, except for medical emergency.

All transport services and movement of people from other districts will remain suspended except those connected with COVID management. Persons having air and rail tickets will be allowed to move on production of tickets.

On Sunday, 735 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected in Assam, of which 400 were in Guwahati alone.
