4 mediapersons, hawkers honoured in Manipur

IMPHAL, Jan 2 � Four mediapersons and newspaper hawkers were honoured on the 32nd foundation day celebration of Kangleipakki Meira, a vernacular evening daily here today.

The four mediapersons are Meisnam Karnajit of Hueiyen Lanpao, vernacular for print (male), Longjam Alisonz of The People�s Chronicle for print (female), Takhellambam Sunil Kumar of ISTV cable TV channel for electronic media and Tongbram Romesh, an employee of Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR).

Newspaper hawkers Chirom Biren and Bungo Macha along with Kangabam Rashi Devi, the first female hawker in the State, were also awarded for their outstanding services.

Besides them, desk editor Krishna Mohon of Sanaleibak, (vernacular) and desk editor Thongam Luwang of Hueiyen Lanpao, (vernacular) were also felicitated on the occasion.

Minister for Social Welfare AK Mirabai Devi, Parliamentary Secretary for IPR K Meghachandra and Additional Chief Engineer of Command Area Development Authority K Manoranjan Singh were the guests at the function held at the Manipur Press Club complex here.

Speaking on the occasion, Mirabai Devi expressed the importance of the media in the society. She also promised to extend all possible help in safeguarding and improving the welfare of the mediapersons.
