4 Maoists killed in Tinsukia encounter

TINSUKIA, May 9 � Tinsukia Police claimed to have killed four unidentified Maoists activists in an encounter that took place at Deopani Borgora Nepali Gaon near Buraburhi Than under Chapakhowa Police Station of Sadiya in Tinsukia district around 10.15 am today.

In the encounter one police constable Achinta Das was also injured when a bullet passed through his right leg.

According to the police, Sadiya Police has got secret information about the presence of a Maoist group of six under the leadership of Sidhartha Buragohain of Telikhola village taking shelter in a house of the area and acted upon it.

However, two Maoists could escape the police dragnet and a vigorous operation is still going on to capture them.

In the meantime, the injured police constable has been shifted to Tinsukia Civil Hospital from where he was referred to Assam Medical College Hospital for further treatment. He is reportedly out of danger.

The four Maoist activists killed by police in the encounter in Sadiya today have been identified as Arup Chetia @ Iyan of Tokajan, Ahomgaon, Sidhartha Buragohain of Telikhola, Rajib Gogoi @ Medang of Tupsinga and Kamal Gogoi of Mekurichuk, all of Sadiya and between the age of 25 to 30 years.

Police have recovered 2 AK-47, 1 AK-56 rifles, 3 live grenade, 53 rounds of live ammunition, 1 detonator and several demand notes from them.
