4 ITBP personnel killed in Arunachal mishap

ITANAGAR, June 29 - In a tragic incident, four Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were killed on the spot and nine others injured, two of them seriously, when the vehicle they were travelling in, was hit by a big rock that fell down from a hill in Lower Siang district this afternoon, police sources said here.

The ill-fated ITBP bus carrying 20 jawans of the 49th Battalion of the ITBP was travelling from Basar to Likabali in Lower Siang district bordering Assam. The mishap occurred about 5 km away from the Likabali check gate.

The deceased have been identified as sub-inspector Vijendra Kumar, assistant sub-inspector Binod Kumar Meena, head constable Dhananjay Yadav and constable (driver) Raju Kumar.

While most of the injured, including the seriously injured ASI Binod Kumar Sharma, constable Alo Rao, head constable Jasdev Kumar, constable Srinivas, inspector Mahendra Pal and constable Anil Rana were evacuated to Dibrugarh in an Army helicopter, two lady constables Sarnesh Kumari and Jyoti Bairagi and constable Rajdweep Bhandari were admitted to the Army Hospital at Likabali.

After completing the formalities, the bodies were kept at the Likabali Police Station. The post mortem will be conducted tomorrow, said DIGP (Central Range) John Naihalia.
