Miraculously, all the four passengers inside the car were saved as they had their seat belts on. They, however, sustained injuries.

Traffic policemen on duty way chased the speeding truck till Demow Chariali and tried to stop it but the driver, who was reportedly in an inebriated condition, suddenly accelerated with a police constable hanging on to the door on the drivers side for about half a kilometre. The constable finally was able to stop the driver and had him arrested.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Transport Virendra Mittal, on Tuesday met the Sivasagar district administration officials and took stock of the situation after the tragic road accident near Thowra Doul that took nine lives and grievously injured 15 others.
