GUWAHATI, May 15 - Altogether four girls from two private schools in the city figured among the top 10 rank holders at the HSLC Examination conducted by SEBA, the result of which were declared today.
From St Mary�s Higher Secondary School, three girls � Pratyasha Medhi, Anushree Bhuyan and Christie Saikia � secured the second, third and fourth rank respectively, whereas Priyanka Kalita of Assam Jatiya Bidyalay secured the fifth rank.
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Pratyasha Medhi said, �I have got the expected result. Before the examination, I did not follow any specific time table. Rather, I tried to utilise as much time as possible. I also pursued private tuition classes, but mainly concentrated on studying on my own, because it always helps build confidence.�
On the use of social media, she said social media is not an evil in student life; rather all internet-aided facilities are quite helpful for knowledge gathering.
�But, one has to be careful in the use of social media and internet, or else it will erode one�s study time and consequently harm one�s preparation.�
Pratyasha, who is fond of both art and Mathematics, stated that now she will pursue higher education in Science stream and will choose medical as her career.
Third rank holder Anushree Bhuyan said, �Although I had private tuition in Maths and Science, yet I always focused on studying on my own. Before examination I tried to study as much as possible. Moreover, the internet is also a good source of information and knowledge, though I have no Facebook account. I want to be a doctor in future.�
Christie Saikia, the fourth rank holder, said she used to study for around 10 hours a day before the examination and took private tuition for all the subjects.
�I think private tuition is necessary to clarify various doubts beyond the school classes,� she added.
A regular reader of The Assam Tribune, she said, �The Assam Tribune is the main source of general knowledge for me. I also read books and listen to songs in my spare time. I wish to pursue medical as my career option.�
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Principal of St Mary�s Higher Secondary School, Sr Catherine KP said that she is satisfied with the results. �We have got the results due to the dedication of the teaching staff, cooperation of students and parents, and motivation of the management body.�
Priyanka Kalita of Assam Jatiya Bidyalay said that she worked hard from the first day of Class X and the result is satisfactory.
�I�ve got the fruit of my hard labour. Now I will pursue higher education in Science stream and want to be an engineer. Every day I used to revise whatever I had learnt in school. It helped me a lot. Moreover, I am very confident that the medium of study will not be a barrier for me in the coming days,� said.
Ghanashyam Medhi, Principal of the Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, expressed his satisfaction over the results, saying it has been a trend with the school over a long period of time. �Our school has been doing well in HSLC. We used to encourage the brilliant students, but motivated the weaker ones, too.�
Bitopan Kalita from Arunodoi EM High School, Mirza, secured the 10th rank in the examination. �I had no private tuition. Rather, I used to study for eight to nine hours daily and this has yielded the fruits,� he said.
Meanwhile, St Vivekananda English Academy, Maligaon, has recorded a hundred per cent success with all its 75 candidates passing the HSLC Exam, 2019. Of its students, 16 achieved distinction marks and 22 got star marks. While 34 students obtained the first division, three passed in the second division and there was none in the third division.
