4 constables suspended

DIGBOI, June 19 - Four constables of Assam Police attached to Bordumsa Police Station of Margherita subdivision in Tinsukia district were suspended today for their alleged involvement in creating fear psychosis and extorting money from a drug peddler held and handed over by the activists of Moran Students� Union and the general public of the area, on Tuesday afternoon.

Confirming the suspension of the police personnel, an official source said that along with the three arrested drug peddlers which include a woman, the cops would also face legal action for dereliction of duty.

Meanwhile, Radha Moran (24), wife of Amal Moran, a resident of Bordumsa Bazar area, Ashim Konwar @Huntu (42), son of Late Anil Konwar of Bordumsa Bazar area and Guna Bora (34) of Ulup village in Margherita were also arrested and prosecuted in the same case u/s 385 ipc, r/w 21 (b) of the NDPS act. Around 85 grams of suspected brown sugar were also recovered from them.

Several hundred bottles of foreign liquor procured from a nearby Arunachal wine retailer stored in a hotel run by Radha Moran were also recovered and subsequently destroyed by the mob. It is pertinent to add here that an unregistered fish market has come up in a privately owned land on one side of the border road within Assam and this fish market has become a drug hub. From here drugs are peddled to all the nearby interior locations like Namsai, Mahadevpur, Chongkham, Tezu, Pyong, Diyun, Miao, Kharsang Pengaree, Digboi, Margherita, Inthem, Mugongpather Jagun, Jairampur and Kakopather.
