4 blasts rock Imphal on Independence Day

By Newmai News

IMPHAL, Aug 16 Intense and tight security vigil in Manipur failed to prevent militants from causing four blasts in State Capital Imphal on Wednesday.

Amidst the series of blasts in and around the State Capital on the Wednesday morning while the Independence Day celebration was in full swing at First Manipur Rifles Parade Ground Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had a harrowing time to pull through the celebration.

The Chief Minister collapsed twice while delivering the Independence Day speech but every time he did collapse, Manipur DGP Y Joykumar, who was standing the Chief Minister, helped him.

The second one seemed to be a bit of a serious one as he was rushed to his official bungalow, some 100 metres away from where the celebration was held. The Chief minister said he was alright now.

The first of the blasts took place around 7:20 am near Mela Ground in the Chief Ministers home district Thoubal.
