4 BJP MLAs suspended for defying whip

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 26 BJP national general secretary and chief spokesperson, Ravi Shankar Prasad has announced that four MLAs of the State BJP have been suspended for defying the party whip and voting for the Congress in the election for the two Rajya Sabha seats held today.

Describing the turn of events as shameful and unfortunate to the party, Prasad told the media that these four MLAs Rumi Nath, Abhijeet Hazarika, Kartik Sen Sinha and Sambhu Singh Mallah had behaved as saleable goods of politics and requested the Speaker of the State Assembly to take immediate action against the MLAs so that they are disqualified under the provisions of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution of the country.

The party will formally apply to the Speaker tomorrow to disqualify these MLAs.

For the sake of democracy, please do not count the vote of these four MLAs, Prasad appealed to the Election Commission. He said that the

Election Commission was morally obliged to ensure that the election was just and so it should not count the votes of the BJP MLAs who had let down the faith of the people by taking the bait of the Congress.

Prasad said that the suspension of the MLA was effective from today and the decision of suspension was taken on technical ground. As we want the proper disqualification process to start, so we have suspended the MLAs, he said informing that the party would start a movement in the respective constituencies of the suspended MLAs to expose them before the electorate.

Terming the election as reflection of the three-pronged strategy of the ruling Congresscriminal intimidation, corruption and blatant abuse of powerPrasad stated that democracy was murdered in the State by the Congress, the Chief Minister and his ministers.

The Prime Minister has to do an explanation regarding the shameful conduct of the Chief Minister and his ministers as he represents the State, demanded Prasad alleging that the government had violated every norm of the election and warned that dirty tricks had a rebounding effect.

He said that the BJP had apprised the Election Commission, the Speaker, the Chief Electoral Officer and all authorities concerned about the apprehension that the Congress would resort to every dirty trick.
