3rd swine flu cases detected in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, Feb 23 � Nagaland too seems to be bearing the brunt of swine flu that hit the nation. State Health department confirmed the third case of the disease in the State on Sunday.

The patient was in Delhi for the past few days. Upon detection that he was having flu symptoms, he had consulted doctors and gave samples in Delhi for verification. The patient then travelled to Nagaland on February 20 by flight, a day before his samples tested positive, the Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP) under the State Health & Family Welfare department said in a release.

Later, upon receiving the news from Delhi on Saturday evening that the result tested positive for H1N1 virus, the Health department took prompt action and administered medication to the patient in Kohima. Till Sunday evening, the condition of the patient was stated to be stable, the release said.

The Health department has advised travellers coming back to Nagaland from Metro cities to get timely medication from nearby hospitals. It has also instructed all the doctors and health personnel to be in the respective place of postings and be geared up for combating H1N1 virus. All district hospitals have also been directed to keep isolation ward facilities at hand.
