3rd summer mountaineering camp begins

DIPHU, July 10 - The five-day-long 3rd summer mountaineering camp started in Karbi Anglong from Saturday. The adventure sports organised by the Karbi Anglong Mountaineering Association (KAMA) with the support of Karbi Anglong district administration, will be held in two locations at Centre Rock Garden and Longsokangthu (Siloni) under Howraghat and Diphu subdivisions respectively.

The camp that started at Centre Rock Garden was officially inaugurated by Mukul Chandra Gogoi, Deputy Commissioner where Latumoni Sonowal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Momika Bora, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), senior journalist Sanju Bora and the two Everesters Khorsing Terang and Hanry David Teron were present. The camp will be guided by the two Everesters.

In Saturday�s event, students participated from different schools and colleges of the district. They were given training on rock climbing, rope rappelling and bouldering on rock etc.

It may be mentioned here that Mukul Chandra Gogoi, Deputy Commissioner and senior journalist Sanju Bora also rappelled on the high rocks in the day�s adventure sport event.

Meanwhile, interacting with mediapersons, Gogoi said that Karbi Anglong has a number of potential sites for adventure sports in which students from Karbi Anglong and other districts of the State can hone their adventure sports skills.

After the summer camp, the winter mountaineering camp will also be organised in Karbi Anglong, the DC said.

Deliberating on adventure sports, Khorsing Terang suggested comprehensive steps to entice students towards the sport.

It may be mentioned here that events like mountaineering, rock climbing, rappelling and water rafting etc., will be offered to the students participating in the summer camp.
