3rd phase of book reading movement

GUWAHATI, Aug 17 - �Kitap Parho Ahok�, a movement to inspire both young and old people to take out time for reading books, entered its third phase today. The initiative that started with the Facebook post of distinguished educationist Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury, is being appreciated and supported by various academic institutions as well as conscious citizens of society.

In Guwahati, as part of this initiative, students and conscious citizens have been gathering in front of the District Library every Saturday since August 3, to make it a regular event.

At a programme held in the District Library auditorium here today, Dr Choudhury said that the movement has now reached different corners of the State. �It will contribute in creating a knowledge-based society, which is one of the prime criteria of a strong and thriving State,� Dr Choudhury said.

Students and teachers of Gurukul Grammar School, librarians, members of the All Guwahati Students� Union, publishers, book sellers and a number of prominent citizens took part in today�s event.

The programme was compered by student leader Bipul Rabha. Noted writer and journalist Anuradha Sarma Pujari administered the oath in favour of book reading.

Sarma Pujari said it was a timely action taken to encourage the people to turn to reading books. Dr Basanta Kumar Bhuyan, founder of the Gurukul Grammar School also spoke on the occasion. Later, Dr Amarjyoti Choudhury led the students inside the library reading room.

A number of colleges and village libraries from different parts of the State have joined the book reading movement.
