384 road accidents during Puja days

GUWAHATI, Oct 24 - A total of 384 road accidents took place during the four days (October 19-22) of the just-concluded Durga Puja in the State.

There were also 81 cases of assault during the period. The data has been provided by 109 Mrityunjoy Emergency Service.

The break-up of road accidents is 64 cases on October 19, 94 cases on October 20, 125 cases on October 20, and 101 cases on October 22. The break-up for assault cases is 22, 26, 20 and 13 during the four days.

The district-wise break-up shows Kamrup (both Metro and Rural) accounting for the maximum of 92 road accident cases. It had seven cases of assault during the period. Sonitpur recorded the second highest road accident cases with a figure of 29, and had seven assault cases.

Both Nagaon and Tinsukia had 26 cases of road accidents each, placing them in the third spot. They had seven and four cases of assault respectively. Barpeta and Bongaigaon were joint fourth with 18 cases of road mishaps each. While Bongaigaon had two cases of assault, Barpeta had four. Darrang, Jorhat and Golaghat accounted for 15 road accident cases each, besides having five, six and three assault cases respectively.
