3,719 candidates file nominations for Panchayat polls in Dhubri

DHUBRI, Nov 22 - As many as 3,719 nominations have been filed for the Panchayat elections in Dhubri district.

The district has been divided into two divisions for the polls, out of which 17 ZPCs are under the Dhubri subdivision and seven under Bilasipara subdivision for which 74 candidates have filed their nominations for the post of Zila Parishad member.

Out of these aspirants, one candidate is from the AGP, 19 from the AIUDF, 18 from the BJP, 5 from the BPF, 18 from the Congress, 2 from the Tinamool Congress, 2 from the SUCI (C) and 9 are Independent candidates.

Under the Dhubri subdivision, 6,31,787 voters will caste their votes at 949 polling stations for 9 Anchalik Panchayat members, 89 Gaon Panchayat presidents and 890 Gaon Panchayat members. Under the Bilasipara subdivision, a total 2,60,237 voters will elect 430 Gaon Panchayat members, 43 Gaon Panchayat Presidents.

For the post of Anchalik Panchayat Members, 349 members have filed their nominations.

For the post of 132 Gaon Panchayat Presidents, 14 candidates from the AGP have filed their nominations, while from the AIUDF, the BJP, the BPF, the CPI(M), the Congress, the TMC, the SUCI (C) and the Voters Party of India, a total of 88, 83, 15, 2, 97, 1, 5 and 1 candidates respectively have filed their nominations. While for this post, as many as 111 candidates have filed their nominations without taking the help of any party.

Meanwhile, for the post of 1,320 Gram Panchayat members, 2,879 candidates have filed their nominations, representing the AGP, the AIUDF, the BJP, the BPF, the CPI, the CPI(M), the Congress, the TMC, the SUCI (C) and others.

For the post of Gram Panchayat member, as many as 648 Independent candidates have filed their nominations. Interestingly, out of the total 3,719 nominations filed, as many as 837 candidates have opted to contest the polls individually.
