371 villages, many towns hit in Dhubri dist

DHUBRI, July 27 - The flood situation in the district has worsened with not only villages but also towns of the district getting submerged under water.

As per the reports of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), as many as 4,66,850 people in 371 villagers have been affected by the floods. Also in Dhubri town, water is continuously coming in and more and more places are getting flooded. �The level of water in the Brahmaputra is increasing in an unprecedented manner and water from the rivers is coming inside the town from all sides,� informed an official of the DDMA, who also informed that such a situation will prevail for some time now.

Meanwhile, the markets on the NS Road have been flooded. While areas like Chatiantola, Subhash Nagar, areas near District Library, Palpara, a few areas in Baluchar have also got submerged, the DDMA informed that already one death has been reported due to floods. Sanjiv Basak, Information officer, DDMA informed that the number of people affected by the floods is rising. He also said that the SDRF as well as the Army has been engaged in relief works in different places in the towns as well as in the villages. Meanwhile, a few schools have also declared holiday due to the ongoing flood situation and many shops and business establishments remained closed all over Dhubri district.
