JORHAT, May 14 - The first batch of 37 returnees from outside the State stepped out from the special train carrying them at Mariani railway junction under Titabar Civil Sub-division of the district today.
In a separate vehicle, nine persons who attended the infamous Tabilighi Jamaat markaaz at Delhi�s Nizamuddin area in March this year, also returned to Jorhat today.
Jorhat Deputy commissioner Roshni A Korati informed that the nine Tablighi Jamaat members returned to Jorhat from Rajasthan.
�They (Tablighi members) have been tested and found negative for COVID-19 in Rajasthan. Hence they will be sent for home quarantine after stamping. We have taken their samples also, as is the procedure for all incoming passengers from other States,� Korati said.
The Deputy Commissioner further stated that all of them belonged to the Deberapara area of Jorhat near Mariani.
She said that out of 37 train passengers screened today, 19 belonged to Jorhat, 1 to Majuli, 15 to Golaghat and two to Sivasagar. All of them would be put under home or institution quarantine, the Deputy Commissioner added.
It may be mentioned here from May 6 till today, 565 people who arrived by own vehicles or ambulances, have been screened at the zonal screening centre for six districts of Upper Assam set up at Kakodunga (bordering Golaghat district) on the western outskirts here.
