MANGALDAI, Sept 28 � Criminals engaged in illegal carriage of arms, ganja, drugs and other narcotics are using new techniques to fool security barricades. This was evident here recently when police managed to recover about 350 kg of ganja illegally carried in two specially in-built chambers of a truck.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Sub Inspector Ananta Das of Mangaldai PS intercepted a truck bearing registration No AS 15 0842 on NH 15 coming from Tezpur recently. The interrogation of the driver and the other passenger revealed that the ganja was kept in two specially built hidden chambers. The value of the seized amount of ganja in the international market is around Rs 5 lakh.
The driver Sumed Ali, hailing from Gobardhona area under Baksa district and his accomplice Abdul Khaleque of Sukmara village under Barpeta PS were arrested.
