35 new cases in Sikkim

GANGTOK, July 21 - As many as 35 new cases have been detected in Sikkim in the last 24 hours, following testing of primary and secondary contacts of COVID-19 positive cases, especially at Rangpo and its surrounding areas.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the State has now reached 213, with 92 persons also getting cured and discharged. The total number of positive cases stands at 305. At present, 206 patients have been admitted to the isolation ward of the STNM Hospital, while seven patients from SSB, Yuksom � who are all asymptomatic � have been admitted to the isolation ward of the Ayush Hospital, Geyzing.

The Sikkim Health DG-cum-Secretary, Dr Pempa Bhutia, said that 14 positive cases were detected among the Rangpo contacts, nine at Mamring, two at Timburbong, seven at Rongli, one from Sang Khola, and two others from the paid quarantine facility here and at Dikchu.

Meanwhile, three persons have been admitted to the isolation ward of the STNM Hospital. One is a driver from Sang Khola in East Sikkim, one was a returnee lodged in a paid quarantine centre and the third person is from Dikchu. Dr Bhutia said that two persons working in the transit xamp at Rangpo have also tested positive.
