34 candidates submit papers for 8 seats in Nagaon dist

NAGAON, Nov 26 - A total of 34 candidates submitted 36 nomination papers in 8 Tiwa Autonomous Council seats of Nagaon district on the last day on Wednesday.

Two independent candidates submitted extra nomination papers for the same council seats because of which the total number of the nomination papers rose to 36 although the number of candidates is only 34.

It is pertinent to say that there are 10 Tiwa Autonomous Council seats in the district and the last date of submission for two seats have been scheduled on November 28 next. Around 80,000 voters will exercise their franchise this time in the district to elect their respective representatives for Tiwa Autonomous Council in those 10 seats.

The scrutiny of the nomination papers of those 8 Council seats is on till the filing of this report, the sources added.

As per political observers, the main fight for the council will be between the ruling BJP-led alliance and Congress this time too.

Both BJP and Congress have already started their campaign among the voters.
