DOOMDOOMA, July 12 - Panic struck the people of Doomdooma and Rupai Siding area here after a 65-year-old woman named Ashima Paul from Rupai Siding Dhan Nagar without any travel history tested positive for COVID-19.
According to family members, she had visited the Assam Medical College and Hospital at Dibrugarh for treatment of an ailment from which she has been suffering. The doctors there advised her to undergo a swab test along with some other mandatory tests.
Accordingly, her swab sample was taken on Friday and late on Saturday she was informed telephonically from the AMCH, Dibrugarh that she had tested positive for COVID-19.
On Sunday afternoon she was shifted to the AMCH, Dibrugarh and her residential area at Dhan Nagar in Rupai Siding was declared a Containment Zone.
According to an official of the Health Department, swab samples of all the members of five families residing in the said area will be collected on Monday.
On the other hand, 30 persons tested positive for COVID-19 during the past two days, with the total tally in Tinsukia district having risen to 322. Some among them are Kamal Sengupta (34), Ram Singh Rajput (24), Sudeshna Ghosh (25), Bikash Karmakar(26), Manjit Urang (24), Chinmoy Singpoo (8), Fakar Chand Ali (56), Harender Rai (52), Manik Dey (34), Jadav Saikia (27), Deepjyoti Konwar (27), Manuj Prajapati (42), Joy Das (19), Rupam Das (21), Ashoke Ghatowar (20), Birat Sahon (20), Supriya Das (26), Krishna Thapa (28), Dhruba Jyoti Leot (24), Lohit Saikia (49), Lokesh Kumar Yadav (28), Abhijit Das (23), Samikya Das (14), Samilia Hasda (55) and Bolin Chetia, the MLA of Sadiya along with 4 others from Sadiya.
While all of them are returnees and quarantined at various centres, only 5, including the Sadiya MLA had contacted the disease without any travel history. So far, 14 persons have reportedly acquired the disease from the community in the district.
