300 attend GU prog on NEP 2020

JALUKBARI, Aug 11 - The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Gauhati University (GU) conducted a webinar on the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 today, where more than 300 individuals participated.

GU Vice Chancellor Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique presented the keynote address covering the entire gamut of NEP-2020. He basically highlighted the specific role in implementation of NEP-2020, mentioning the notable changes, evolution of education policy, advantages, disadvantages, institutional restructuring and consolidation, major reforms like Indian knowledge system, use of technology, etc., in detail.

Prof Handique also made mention of holistic and multidisciplinary education, credit transfer, HEIS, MERU, etc. He talked about optimal learning environments and support for students, research funding, regulatory body, setting up of Higher Education Commission of India (HECI), etc.

The welcome address was given by Prof Bhaben Tanti, Director, IQAC, GU. This was followed by the opening remarks on NEP-2020 by Dr Hemanta Kumar Nath, Registrar, GU, where he mentioned the paradigm of excellence, restructuring of higher education and mapping.

Prof Akhil Ranjan Dutta, president of Gauhati University Teachers� Association; Dr Sarat Borkakati, president, Assam College Principal Council; Dr Anupam Dutta, academic secretary of Assam College Teachers� Association and Prof Asha Kothari Choudhury, Department of English, GU also spoke on NEP, 2020.

Dr Naresh Kumar Kakkar, member of the GU Executive Council spoke on school education, academic credit bank, etc. The closing remarks were made by Prof Sanjay Kumar Singh, member, IQAC, GU.
