ITANAGAR, July 22 - In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old newly-wedded woman was allegedly raped by a man, who is stated to be a close relative of the victim. The incident took place at Sipu Colony at Aalo in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh recently.

The accused identified as Martin Bagra, a habitual offender, has been arrested the same day upon registration of a case under section 376 of IPC and is now under judicial custody, informed West Siang district SP M Riba here today.

The accused, also a married man, committed the scandalous crime at his residence. The victim is reported to be his adopted sister who had been living with the family since she was a young girl. The arrest was made following a complaint lodged at Aalo police station by the victim herself. Samples for medical tests have been taken, and police is waiting for reports to come, informed the SP.

In the meantime, the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) today strongly condemned the alleged rape at Aalo by repeat offender Martin Bagra and called upon the authorities not to grant him bail without awarding punishment as per law. Expressing its apprehensions that the accused could be granted bail again, the APSCW requested those backing him to consider the dangers of letting a criminal loose in the society.
