30 publications released on second day of Sabha session

Badousa Samannay Kshetra (Burhidihing-Bordumsa), Feb 1 - Altogether 30 publications, including the souvenir published by the reception committee, were released on the second day of the 74th session of the Asam Sahitya Sabha being held at Badousa Samannay Kshetra in Burhidihing-Bordumsa today.

The day�s programme started with the hoisting of the Sabha flag. The main flag was hoisted by Sabha vice president Prahlad Chandra Tassa. Ninety-nine more flags were hoisted by office-bearers of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, its various units and the reception committee. Sabha president Dr Dhurbajyoti Borah could not attend the function due to illness.

The shraddhanjali programme was initiated by AASU general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi and AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai. Leaders of various ethnic student bodies also participated in the programme.

After the registration of delegates, the Sarbananda Singha Memorial Mandap at Ritupathar under the Burhidihing mouza was inaugurated by Pranjit Deka, Executive Director (HR&A), IOCL. The Sati Sadhani Memorial Stage at the Sarbananda Singha Mandap was inaugurated by Tinsukia MLA Sanjay Kishan.

The fourth executive committee meeting of the Asam Sahitya Sabha was held at the Bhimbar Deori Mandap at Bordumsa in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Deoram Tassa Memorial Kavi Sanmelan was held at the Sarbananda Singha Mandap. It was presided over by eminent Assamese poetess Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika, and inaugurated by Bikram Koiri, SDO (Civil), Margherita.

Prior to the first open session tomorrow, a cultural procession with the newly-elected president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, will be taken out from the Singpho Heritage Centre, Bordumsa, to the Sarbananda Singha Mandap.

The cloudy and chilly weather today dampened the spirit of the people visiting the Sabha session.

Meanwhile, the Tinsukia district administration has declared a local holiday in Tinsukia district on February 2 for the Asam Sahitya Sabha session.
