30 new positive cases detected in Barak Valley

SILCHAR, May 25 - In what could be called a massive escalation of COVID-19 positive cases in a single day, as many as 30 positive cases were detected in Barak Valley on Monday.

While a tweet from Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at 8:40 am informed that five cases were found in Karimganj district, another tweet by him in the evening at 5:50 pm updated that out of 48 new cases found across different districts, 25 cases are from the three districts of Barak Valley, including 16 in Karimganj, five in Cachar and four from Hailakandi district.

Meanwhile, sources in Karimganj district administration informed that out of 25 cases announced in the evening, 11 persons have confirmed travel histories to Uttar Pradesh, Hyderabad, Patna, West Bengal, while travel details of 14 others are yet to be ascertained.

On the other hand, sources in Cachar District Health department informed that among the five patients from Karimganj detected earlier in the day, all of them have definite travel histories of returning from Maharashtra. While four persons were in Don Bosco School quarantine centre, one patient was kept at a quarantine centre in Karimganj.
