3 Star Club, Nepal take home Bordoloi Trophy

GUWAHATI, Sept 30 - Spirited 3 Star Club Nepal rallied to beat East Bengal Club, Kolkata 2-1 in the thrilling final of the 64th Bharat Ratna Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament, co-sponsored by the Assam Tribune group here at the Nehru Stadium today.

After a gruelling dry first session East Bengal went ahead in the 83rd minute through Adeleja who headed home off a skipper Jiten Murmu�s floater. The match was about to finish when defender Devendra Tamang fired the equaliser in the added time (90+4). In the first half of the extra time Bimal Ghatri Magor netted the all important goal in the 99th minute.

The Kolkata outfit was more aggressive in the first session but the Nepal boys gradually took control on the ground and started raiding the opponent territory. East Bengal skipper Jiten Murmu tested the Nepal custodian Allon Neupane in the 20th minute with a sharp grounder. But after that both the teams played safe till the final part of the match.

East Bengal defender Calum James Angus, who was not playing today, was adjudged best player of the tournament while Bimal Mogor walked away with the best player of the final award presented by the Assam Sports Journalist Association and GSA. East Bengal�s Dibyendu Sarkar was named the best goal keeper while Kayode Ajayi Martin (Nepal) and Adeleja (East Bengal) received the highest scorer�s trophy.
