3 police barracks to be built in Cachar district

SILCHAR, Nov 30 - In sync with the central function at Jengraimukh of Majuli district, wherein Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the construction of 100 police barracks using pre-engineered building technology, a ceremonial event was held at the Police Reserve in Cachar district on Sunday.

Three barracks will be constructed in the district, including two at Silchar and one at Katigorah. DIG (Southern Range) Dilip Kumar Dey said the barracks will be constructed at the Silchar Police Station, Police Reserve and Katigorah Police Station under the Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI), as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

�This is a first-of-its-kind project as envisioned by the Prime Minister for smart police and smart policing. The responsive image of a police station should be transformed so that people who will come to seek help from police should feel comfortable with the ambience around it. In Cachar, three barracks will be built in the first phase, and two each in Karimganj, Hailakandi and Dima Hasao,� the DIG said.

Cachar SP Bhanwar Lal Meena informed that the work for the PE barracks will start in the next 15 to 20 days and as many as 210 police persons could be accommodated in the three barracks. The work to give an infrastructural facelift to the police thana is also going on.

Silchar MLA Dilip Kr Paul underscored the need to upgrade old facilities for police personnel. �The need to transform the old facilities for police persons has been realised by the government and efforts will also be made to improve the quarter facilities for them,� he added.

Borkhola MLA Kishore Nath said that the Borkhola Police Station needs to be upgraded, and, at the same time, other police outposts of Borkhola that are in a bad shape should be upgraded as well. He also spoke about the need to set up a police outpost in Dudpatil area under Borkhola constituency.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said the infrastructure will be an asset for the entire department and hoped that the number of complaints from the public will come down.

�I congratulate the police department for this beautiful scheme and the unique idea. It will surely lead the district towards further development,� she said.

Additional SP (headquarters) Jagadish Das anchored the event at the Police Reserve.
