GUWAHATI, Oct 20 - Of the four girls rescued from a prostitution racket in Haryana last evening, three were from Nagaon district of Assam.
Shockingly, one of these three girls was sold off to a pimp by her own husband.
The girls, according to investigators, were raped, tortured and confined by those running the prostitution racket.
The three Assam girls along with a girl from West Bengal were rescued from Panipat district of Haryana last evening by a joint team of Assam Police and Haryana Police along with Shakti Vahini, a national-level voluntary organisation.
According to Rishi Kant of Shakti Vahini, the victims were forced into prostitution by one Rakesh near Anaj Mandi under the jurisdiction of Rani Bagh Police Station.
While one of these three girls from Assam was lured on the pretext of love and marriage around 18 days ago after which an FIR was registered with the local police station, another was sold off by her own husband.
�Confined for 18 days, one day Shakila (name changed) somehow managed to call her family, which acted as a tip-off. Assam Police immediately reached Delhi and approached Shakti Vahini and a search operation was conducted at an isolated building in Panipat with the intervention of Superintendent of Police of Panipat Rajesh Duggal.
On receiving the information from Assam Police and Shakti Vahini, Duggal activated his team at local police station. During the two-hour-long search operation, four victims were rescued by the team,� Rishi Kant said.
After Shakila was spotted, she led us to another building where some other girls were also kept, he said.
Shakila revealed that she had come in contact with a boy named Moti back home who promised to marry her and brought her to Delhi. She was kept in an unknown place in Delhi and was then taken to Panipat. Moti sold her off to Rakesh for Rs 25,000.
The victims further mentioned that every night Rakesh used to bring customers to the building.
The other victim, Ruhi (name changed) said that she had been handed over to a pimp at New Delhi Station by her own husband. She was told that she is going for some household work but was forced into prostitution around seven days ago. Her brother, who lives in Delhi, is also unaware that she is being forced into prostitution, as informed by the victim.
Aklima, the third victim from Assam, revealed that a man named Moidula and a woman named Roma Laleen, whom she knew since two to three months, gave her something to eat around 20-21 days ago after which she fell unconscious. Later, when she regained her consciousness, she found herself in the house in Panipat. She was also forced into prostitution by Rakesh.
