NEW DELHI, Oct 15 At least three onshore blocks in the North-east, including two in Assam, have been put on offer under the New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) Ninth Round, it was announced by Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora.
The three blocks on offer in Assam-Arakan Basin include one in Tripura and two blocks in Karbi Anglong at Diphu and Dhemaji in Tinsukia districts.
The blocks in Karbi Anglong and Dhemaji cover an area of 396 square km and 171 km respectively.
Assam-Arakan Basin is a polycyclic basin located in the North Eastern Region. The shelf part of the basin spreads over the Brahmaputra and Dhansiri Valley, shelf to basinal slope lies below Naga thrust and the basinal part is occupied by the Naga Scup pen belt and Cachar-Tripura Mizoram-Manipur fold belts.
This is a proven petro-liferous basin covering about 1, 16,000 square km, said officials.
Extensive exploration, particularly in Nagaland-Tripura-Manipur fold belt is warranted for making further commercial discoveries. Besides, recent reinterpretation of geo-scientific data has identified attractive plays like fault propagation folds and duplexes in Tripura-Manipur area, said officials.
