DIBRUGARH, April 29 - Police have reportedly arrested three media persons from Namrup area for alleged extortion bid.
According to the police, an FIR was registered at Namrup PS (case no. 63/20 u/s 120B/342/353/387/419/468/34 IPC) on the basis of an e-mail received at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh. The case pertains to an incident where some media persons of Namrup area were reportedly stopping vehicles to examine documents citing authorization from the Deputy Commissioner.
Police said that there were allegations that they frequently stopped vehicles and demanded money from truck drivers. The episode has been videographed and the video has been seized. The accused involved are Bitu Boruah, Hiren Gogoi and Samiron Boruah. Legal action is being initiated, informed Additional Superintendent of Police Padmanabh Barua.
Further, involving the same trio, on April 28, a suo moto case was taken up against he media persons vide Namrup PS (case no. 64/20 u/s 74 JJ Act r/w Sec 23 POCSO Act). It relates to a news report prepared by them regarding Namrup PS (case no. 61/20 u/s 342 IPC r/w Sec 4 of POCSO Act) where the identity of the minor victim was clearly shown in violation of the law, police added.
