3 Manipur students hurt in ILP protest

IMPHAL, Aug 3 - Three students, including girls were injured in police action when pupils of eight higher secondary schools here took out a protest march to the State Secretariat to demand implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system.

The students were demanding implementation of the ILP system to regulate outsiders in the State, besides seeking punishment of police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood.

Sapam Robinhood, a Class-XI student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School was killed in police action while controlling a protest march demanding ILP system on July 8. Since then, the State authority has temporarily closed the educational institutions, besides imposing curfew in greater Imphal area comprising Imphal West and Imphal East districts to avoid any untoward incident.

But with the improvement of the situation, the State authority reopened the educational institutions on Monday following a government order.

Earlier, the police team tried to stop the students in front of Nupi Lal Complex in Imphal.But they managed to reach the new secretariat complex area where the Education Minister�s office is located close to the Imphal West district police headquarters, after jumping the police barricade.
