3 killed in Arunachal landslide

ITANAGAR, July 15 - A massive landslide triggered by torrential rainfall claimed the lives of three members of a family at Type-III Colony in Seppa under East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh in the wee hours today.

The deceased, identified as 35-year-old Sushil Kumar Das, his wife Rupa, 30, and three-year-old son Aryan, hailed from Lalmati under Tezpur sub-division in Assam�s Sonitpur district.

A communiqu� from the district administration said that the landslide with mud and stones took place due to heavy downpour buried the dwelling house killing the three on the spot.

Torrential rains since last 24 hours have caused heavy landslides in various locations of Seppa, the district headquarters, damaging several houses, roads, culverts, water pipelines and electricity poles.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed shock and grief over the death of three persons at Seppa and directed release of ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the deceased as per relief norms.
