3 killed as truck rams against train

GUWAHATI, Dec 7 � Three persons were killed and at least five others including a train driver received injuries when one truck dashed against 55611 up Fakiragram - Kamakhya passenger coming from Fakiragram towards Kamakhya (Guwahati) at unmanned level crossing no.256 in between Chaygaon - Mirza stations of Rangiya division in Kamrup district at about 3.16 pm.

Railway sources said that the driver of the truck, the helper and one labour were killed in the accident. The train driver Kashim Ali and assistant driver Pranjal Sarma received serious head injuries in the accident and they have been rushed to the GNRC hospital for treatment. Three passengers also received injuries but their injuries are not serious, Railway sources said.

As the engine of the train was damaged, a relief engine was sent to the spot to bring back the train to Kamakhya station, sources said. However, the track was not damaged in the accident. Two of those killed have been identified as Pradeep Rai and Samsuddin Haque.
