Jorhat, Feb 13: Three houses were gutted in a fire at Jankhona village of Baligaon area on the northern outskirts here on Saturday morning at around 6 AM.

Fire tenders from Jorhat Fire Station doused the fire and stopped it from spreading to other houses. Two persons received injuries and were hospitalized, a fire station source stated.

Though exact cause of the fire was yet to be known, neighbours stated that they heard a big sound likely to be of a LPG cylinder explosion that occurred in one of the houses, the source stated. Whether the cylinder exploded first and led to the fire or the cylinder blasted after fire caught it was yet to be ascertained, the source said.

All belongings of the families residing in the three houses were destroyed, the source said.
