JORHAT, Aug 26 - Police personnel of the Pulibor PS on the western outskirts here arrested two persons on Sunday on charges of extorting money from passenger vehicles operating from the Inter-State Bus Terminus here.
A police source stated that Faijur Rahman of Mudoijan area under Teok PS and Bogai Baruah of Sirotiagaon under Pulibor PS, were arrested under Sections 384 (Extortion), 387 (Putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) and 34 (Common intention) in the case number 343/2019 registered at the police station.
Meanwhile, personnel of Jorhat PS have arrested Raj Barhoi Bora, assistant secretary of the Sadou Asom Chutiya Chatra, on Sunday on charges of kidnapping and demanding money from an employee of a private firm who had come to Jorhat from Guwahati on Friday to conduct an interview.
Bora, who is the state assistant secretary of Sadou Asom Chutiya Chatra Sanstha, was arrested under Sections 364-A (Kidnapping for ransom) and 392 (Robbery) in the case number 2224/2029 registered at the police station after the firm employee lodged an FIR against Bora.
