3 held for theft of midday meal rice

SILCHAR, April 25 � Three persons who were involved in theft of midday meal rice from the DNHS School situated at Udharbond were arrested on Thursday. The arrested persons are Manibabu Rajkhowa, driver of the principal of the school concerned, chowkidar Anil Chanda Das and a person close to the principal, Partha Shuklabaidya.

According to the information received, a Maruti van (AS 11D-1142) belonging to the principal, entered the school premises at night. Some local people noticed it and subsequently they informed the police about the incident. The police rushed to the spot and arrested three persons. Four bags with 50 kgs of rice were found in the vehicle.

In the initial investigation, the chowkidar Anil Chandra Das said that the rice was kept in the vehicle as per the instructions given by principal Lalit Mohan Singh. Partha Shuklabaidya said that he had gone to the school to submit some essential papers. He also requested the chowkidar to give some rice to him. So while returning, he took this rice home.

Further investigationsrevealed that the main man behind this incident was principal Lalit Mohan Singh. Police are interrogating him.

The local people said that these sort of incidents of anomalies in rice distribution are regularly occurring. The rice which is meant for children, is being taken away by the person who is the authority of the school and this is really shameful and the principal should be dismissed, the local people said.
