GUWAHATI, June 3 - The Tea Board has reconstituted the Advisory Committee for Small Tea Growers (STGs) in its latest board meeting held on May 30, said tea industry sources.

Three tea growers from the NE region Bidyananda Barkakoty, Dilip Moran and Diki Tashi Wangchuk have been inducted in the advisory committee and a few more members will be inducted into it at a later date, sources said.

Bidyananda Barkakoty, who is presently the Vice Chairman of the Tea Board, will head this new advisory committee as its Chairman.

There are about two lakh STGs in India, of which one lakh are in Assam alone. As per official figures, about 33 per cent of the countrys tea is produced from the green leaf grown by the STGs.

However, as per unofficial figures, it is above 40 per cent and would touch 50 per cent by the year 2025.

The countrys Small Growers Development Directorate is headquartered at Dibrugarh in the State.
